Abstract
If isoparametric coordinates are used to deal with curved boundaries in the finite element method, the original boundary is implicitly replaced by a series of parabolic or cubic arcs. The equations of these arcs involve parameters which are the coordinates of points on the curved side, and a simple procedure is outlined for choosing these parameters in such a way that each arc is a parabola which passes through four points of the original curve thus ensuring a good approximation to it.Keywords
