Abstract
The osmium(VIII)- and chromium(III)-catalysed cerium(IV)-arsenic(III) reaction was studied in the presence and absence of micelles of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB). The rate of the cerium(IV)-arsenic(III) reaction was increased by the presence of DTAB micelles, so the influence of the chemical catalyst on the micellar catalysis was studied. The kinetic studies undertaken show that both micelle- and ion-catalysed reactions occur in parallel and that the catalytic efficiency of each one determines the preferential route through which the reaction products are formed. Keywords
