Abstract
Commencing with the usual first-order approximate descriptions of radiative heat-transfer processes, and assuming uniformity of temperature across the cells of a differential scanning calorimeter, a 'theoretical' shape for the thermogram of a first-order phase transition such as melting is constructed, and then it is shown how that shape should be analysed to obtain an accurate value for the heat of transition. Keywords
