Abstract
The term “instructional design” was originally used by learning theorists and military/industrial trainers to describe a model-based, systems approach to creating effective instruction for various technologies. In early development of courseware for the rapidly expanding microcomputer market, many developers adopted the term “authoring” to describe a more generic development process. This article will point out some crucial differences between authoring and instructional design approaches, and will describe a courseware design model and systematic procedures which can help assure that courseware packages facilitate efficient and effective student learning. Keywords
