Myocardial Infarction Associated with Pregnancy

Abstract
THE incidence of heart disease in pregnant women is approximately 2 per cent. Rheumatic heart disease makes up the vast preponderance of these cases, whereas myocardial infarction is rare. The purpose of this paper is to review the reported cases of myocardial infarction associated with pregnancy and to report 2 additional cases.Review of the LiteratureIn 1952 Mendelson1 reviewed 19 case reports from 1871 to 1950, and added 4 cases of his own. In the ensuing eight years 25 more cases have been noted,2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 bringing the total to 48. Of these, only 221 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 , 21 22 23 24 present acceptable evidence for the diagnosis . . .Keywords
