Abstract
This article presents the findings of a research project designed to identify factors that contribute to the ability of at-risk high school students to make the transition from behavior pattems associated with academic failure to academic success. Based on open-ended interviews with 66 students, it describes, in their words, their experiences as elementary, junior high, and high school students; their reasons forfailing; and their motivations and supports for changing.Keywords
