Abstract
We comment on a paper [J. R. Stine and J. T. Muckerman, J. Chem. Phys. 6 5, 3975 (1976)] of the same title. We point out that their attempted reduction of a locally avoided intersection of two potential energy surfaces to a one‐dimensional problem is incorrect. Keywords
