Abstract
Poliomyelitis virus is present in the upper respiratory tracts of many persons, but for a short period only. Infection is spread by direct contact. The age distribution shows that the large majority of people acquire an immunity. Immunization occurs if "autarcesis" is high at time of dissemination of virus, but epidemics take place if it is low, due to seasonal influences. By "autarcesis" is meant the infection-resisting power associated with normal physiological functions.This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
