Abstract
Voltage level variations are shown to be only one of eight different types of voltage deviations which can affect motor characteristics. Each of these is discussed in relation to possible detrimental effects on operating costs or motor reliability. The timeliness of the paper is demonstrated, especially for continuous process and automated industries. Remedial measures, when indicated, are shown to cover a wide gamut from redesigning control systems to reappraising the electrical system one line diagram. Keywords
