Abstract
Temperature records at several sites have been analysed in terms of monthly and annual degree-day values to base temperatures in the range 5 to 20°C. Results for London (Heathrow) are presented in some detail and compared with estimates made with various published procedures. The consistency across Britain of year-to-year variations is examined. The new results have been combined with previously published figures to explore geographical variations of base-temperature corrections. A new procedure is proposed for base-temperature correction of mean annual degree-day totals. This can be applied to all parts of Britain and extends to base temperatures outside the range of the existing CIBS Guide table. It can also be used to adjust figures for the effects of altitude. Keywords
