Cineangiographic Patterns in Pericardial Disease

Abstract
A simple technic for diagnosis of pericardial disease is described, using venous angiography with cineradiography. Normal controls showed corrected right atrial border widths of 0.5 cm or less. of 26 patients clinically suspected of having pericardial effusions, 19 had right atrial border widths of more than 0.5 cm, and 7 had normal measurements. Cineangiographic study of the 19 patients with increased right atrial border width has provided differentiation between those with excessive pericardial fluid without thickening (Group I), those with excessive fluid plus thickened pericardium (Group II), and those with hydropericardium due to cardiac failure (Group IH). Cineangiographic findings are described in cases with clinical constrictive pericardial disease.
