Pulse Rates

Abstract
Following the classic paper by William A. Guy of London, in 1838, textbooks and encyclopedias have given 72 as the avg. pulse rate for [male][male], and 80 for [female][female]. This difference of 8 per min. for women contrasts with a difference of only 1 per min. in a study of 30,000 subjects observed in connection with the "Medical Impairment Study." The avg. pulse rates found among the 30,000 subjects were 74.7 for [male][male] and 75.8 for [female][female]. The heart rate in different sp. is reviewed as well as the heart rate changes in man under various circumstances.
