Intervertebral Disk Calcification in Childhood

Abstract
Cervical spine was more commonly involved than other areas. Incidence decreases as young adulthood is reached. Generally, intervertebral disk calcification is asymptomatic. Clinical symptoms of pain, decreased motion, muscle spasm, tenderness and torticollis were invariably present (singly or in combination) when calcification occurred in cervical region. Such calcification and clinical disease in older age suggest a separate entity. Intervertebral disk calcification appears to be a self-limited disease requiring only conservative symptomatic treatment.
