Abstract
In 1965, Tunisia became the first Moslem country to liberalize abortion laws. This paper is a review of Tunisia's experience and is, therefore, significant to other Moslem countries. The experience is also of interest to the developing world, as it demonstrates that such liberalization does not lead to excessive use or abuse of abortion, nor does it burden hospital services. The study shows, a first for a developing country, that liberalization of abortion can improve contraceptive practice.
