OBSERVATIONS ON THE BLOOD FLOW AND GASEOUS METABOLISM OF THE LIVER OF UNANESTHETIZED DOGS

Abstract
A cannulation method is presented for determining the total, portal vein, and hepatic vein blood flow through the liver of the unanesthetized dog. The total liver blood flow varies between 17 and 40 cc. per kgm. body weight. The hepatic arterial flow constituted 12-25% of the total flow. The O consumption of the liver varied from 0.025 to 0.065 cc. per gm. liver. Some observations are given on R. Qs, of the intact liver.
