Abstract
The role of weather in determining an outbreak of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae is discussed in relation to its life cycle. Attention is centred on overwintering survival, and the weather during the spring migration into cereal crops and its effect on subsequent population development. The relationships between the aphid, crop, and weather are investigated using a simulation model. Keywords
