Abstract
The dietary effect of antibiotics, Aureomycin and sulfasuxidine, on phospho-lipid and nucleoprotein synthesis was studied in rat livers. The addition of Aureomycin (25 mg./rat/day for 4 and 8 wks.) to a low protein low fat diet caused a marked stimulation of growth and food consumption in the rat. There were no significant changes in the liver lipids or the synthesis of phospholipids or nucleoproteins. Addition of 5% sulfasuxidine to a low protein-low fat diet produced a significant lipotropic effect. There was a significant decrease in total lipids and an increase in lipid phosphorylation. Keywords
