Abstract
Using Bourdieu's (1984) conceptualization of economic and cultural capital this paper provides an ethnographic analysis of the leisure practices of residents living on a private housing estate in the north-west of England. Their socio-economic location is examined and it is suggested that their leisure practices can be understood as one of the ways in which social position is constructed. Keywords
