Abstract
Certain post-UV-irradiation processes involved in mutation induction in Escherichia coli were studied. The ultimate mutation response to a given UV dose appears to depend on the intracellular supply of nucleic acid precursors at the time of UV exposure and on the relative efficiency, following UV exposure, of 2 competitive processes; stabilization, which is amino acid dependent, and removal of mutagenic substrate, which is amino acid independent. Keywords
