Abstract
Effects of heat treatment on the structure and corrosion resistance of a conventional electroless nickel deposit containing 8.4 wt% phosphorus and high integrity electroless nickel alloy containing 12.2 wt% phosphorus were studied. Differential thermal analysis indicated an exothermic effect at 330°C for both types of deposits. Changes in corrosion resistance after heat treatment at 150–800°C were correlated with structural changes shown by X-ray diffraction and with those revealed in optical and scanning electron micrographs. Significant changes in the structure, hardness and stripping rate of as-plated alloys were observed for coatings heat treated within the range 200–400°C.Keywords
