Carbarsone Treatment for Balantidium coli Infections

Abstract
Carbarsone, in courses totalling either 5 or 10 gm. in a 10-day period, was given to 6 cases of balantidiasis. Doses of either 0.25 or 0.5 gm. were given twice daily. After 1 or 2 such courses of treatment, the infections were eradicated, as shown by repeated post-treatment examinations some of which extended over a 4-yr. period. A 7th infection, which received less carbarsone than the other 6, also disappeared.
