Duplication of the Stomach Associated with Bleeding Duodenal Ulcer

Abstract
Duplication of the stomach is among the rarest of gastrointestinal anomalies, Gross1 noting only 2 in a series of 68 cases of intestinal duplication. Hemorrhage is an occasional complicating feature, particularly in those infrequent cases in which the duplication communicates with the stomach.2,3 In our case we had the unusual combination of a duplication and a massively bleeding duodenal ulcer in a 14-year-old white girl. Report of Case A 14-year-old white girl was admitted to the Maimonides Hospital on Nov. 26, 1956, because of the sudden onset of weakness, faintness, and marked pallor of 24 hours' duration. The patient gave a five-year history of upper abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Since the age of 10 years she had had five hospital admissions to another institution for these symptoms. X-ray studies of the gastrointestinal tract revealed the presence of an irregularity of the duodenum with evidence of extrinsic pressure
