Abstract
We know very little about the cognitive processes that transform wishes into intentions. Value-expectancy models of motivation only tell us what will be the most preferred goal once an individual is committed to an action, but they do not tell us why people intend to act in the first place or why they harbor many wishes that are never transformed into intentions. Nor do they tell us how wishes develop, what it is that transforms wishes into intentions and intentions into actions. Keywords
