Oviposition Stimulant Associated with Fourth-Instar Larvae of Aedes Togoi (Diptera: Culicidae)

Abstract
An oviposition stimulant is associated with Aedes togoi 4th-instar larvae. This stimulant may be bacterial metabolites, larval excretory products that mimic naturally occurring stimulants produced by plants or animals, or compounds of larval origin that are produced specifically to aid gravid females in identifying pools suitable for preadult development. Ae. togoi pupae do not produce an oviposition stimulant or attractant. The stimulative or attractive quality of water in which Ae. togoi pupae have been held is due to bacterial contamination.
