Coarctation of the Aorta (A Genetic Study)

Abstract
The parents, siblings, and children of 52 patients with confirmed coarctation of the aorta were examined. Out of a total of 291 living relatives 97.6% were examined. Fifty had died. There was no case of coarctation, either among the living or among the deceased relatives. This indicates that heredity cannot be a major etiological factor. On the other hand, the study disclosed one case of valvular pulmonary stenosis and one of a possibly congenital heart disease whose nature is so far uncertain. The latter case occurred in the monozygotic twin brother of one of the probands.
