Abstract
A method for determining the electric multipole polarizabilities of the proton is presented. In particular, the following theoretical values for the electric dipole and quadrupole polarizabilities of the proton are obtained: and . This results in the static approximation from the inelastic contribution of the two-photon exchange process to the scattering of a scalar charged particle by the proton.
