Abstract
The nasal ray of Condylura consists of a relatively large nerve, two sinus-like arterioles, thick dermis and an epidermis. The epidermis contains numerous papillae, each of which contains 1–3 tactile organs. These organs are located primarily on the medial surface of the ray; each organ consists of 6–9 nerve fibers that extend up through a column of epithelial cells of the stratum corneum. Chromatophores are found primarily on the lateral side of the ray. Muscle cells are lacking throughout the entire ray. No morphological differences exist between the rays except their length.
