Abstract
Autogeny appears to exist in the Egyptian population of Phlebotomus papatasi as an adaptation for survival of some progeny through periods without a bloodmeal source (Schmidt, 1965, J. Med. Ent. 1: 356). To test this view, F1 progeny of field-collected P. papatasi were studied to determine their ability to survive and breed autogenously.
