Abstract
12 steers were allotted to a 2 x 2 factorial experiment in which the factors were energy level of the ration (54.3 and 71.3% total digestible nutrients) and KNO3 addition to the ration (none and 1% KNO3). A low carotene ration was fed In a 56 day trial the high energy ration resulted in a significantly larger liver vitamin A depletion than did the low energy ration. The addition of 1% KNO3 reduced liver vitamin A stores but the reduction was not significant. Feed intake was significantly affected by both energy level and nitrate addition. Keywords
