Abstract
Renoprival hypertension in dogs is augmented by gross overhydration with electrolyte solution, but neither its occurrence nor its severity is altered by daily peritoneal dialysis. A high protein diet in 10 dogs compared with fasting in 5 dogs caused only a slight increase in severity of renoprival hypertension, far less than overhydration. High protein-containing diets increased the number and severity of medial arteriolar necroses and of focal myocardial necroses when compared with similar lesions in unfed, nephrectomized dogs. Keywords
