Abstract
Metabolites of C14-carboxyl labeled p-aminobenzoic acid (PAB) were investigated after its incubation with a PAB-requiring mutant of E. coli. Some 80% of the growth factor was taken up by the organisms in 24 hours. By column chromatography on Dowex 50, 4 soluble radioactive metabolites, comprising almost all the radioactive content of the cells, were separated from the cell bodies of the organism. Two of the fractions show some degree of citrovorum factor activity, but none of the 4 are identical with folic acid, citrovorum factor or various derivatives. Keywords
