Abstract
To the Editor: In recent years some studies have suggested a relation between the ratio of male births to female births and viral infections. An excess of males in the sibships and among the children of carriers of the Australian antigen (hepatitis B virus) has been found in different populations.1 2 3 4 However, an excess of female births may be related to the presence of antibody to hepatitis B virus in the mother's serum. An excess of male births, which has been observed several times in some African tribes, was recently shown to be related to the occurrence of epidemic measles.5 Because . . .Keywords
