Abstract
This paper examines the confusion that has arisen over the failure to adequately define what is meant by behavior modification in critical analyses of this therapeutic intervention in prison settings. The technical term “behavior modification” is explicated and the consequences of ignoring distinctions among types of behavior modification are discussed. A plea is made for analysis and evaluation of the goals and procedures of all therapeutic interventions. Keywords
