Abstract
An attack of acute pancreatitis should prompt a thorough search for an underlying causative disease and its eradication when possible. The surgical procedures which have proved most successful in preventing recurrences are those which correct organic biliary tract disease. Direct drain age procedures designed to relieve obstruction of the pancreatic ducts have recently been performed in a small number of patients with chronic pancreatitis and appeal to hold promise. Keywords
