Abstract
An electromyographic study of the motility of the ileo-ceco-colic area was made on 12 wk-old rabbits, according to the spontaneous feeding pattern and the related fecal excretion rhythm. Each compartmental state (food intake-cecotrophy, rest between 2 meals, rest between 2 soft feces intake) was associated with characteristic motility patterns. The main associations were the following: nightly, food intake was high and hard feces were excreted with a high frequency of cecal contractions, but with a low frequency of ileal contractions and maximum activity of the fusus coli; daily, soft feces were excreted and food intake was low with a low frequency of cecal contractions but a high frequency of ileal contractions and a minimum activity of the fusus coli. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
