The Isolation of Deoxyribonucleic Acids from Rye and Wheat.

Abstract
The procedure is essentially one of extraction of the grain with dilute NaCl soln. followed by a series of fractional precipitations with ethanol; ribonuclease digests away most of the ribonucleic acid (I) present. Enzyme protein was removed by shaking with chloroform-octanol. Final purification was achieved by ethanol precipitation. It is necessary to extract wheat germ first with petroleum ether. A comparatively pure prepn. was obtained from wheat, containing 4.7% I, whereas the prepn. from rye contained 16% I.
