Abstract
To the Editor: Harper et al. (Oct. 23 issue)1 describe a patient with T8-cell proliferation who was concomitantly infected with human T-cell lymphotropic virus Type I (HTLV-I) and Type III (HTLV-III). However, the order of infectivity was not established. Two recent reports probably support earlier infection with HTLV-I.Intravenous drug abusers in Rome and Naples, Italy, have recently been described as a new population infected with HTLV-I; more than 50 percent have antibody to HTLV-III as well. The spread of HTLV-I to a population at risk for HTLV-III infection and the increased incidence of dual infection in this population raises . . .Keywords
