Abstract
In 51 rabbits a transverse lesion of the cord was produced in different heights. There has been microscopical examination in 30 animals. Histology of the trigonum area was done 21 times and 18 times it was done in the area of the fundus. The transverse lesion of the cord lasted up to 12 months. According to the innervation of the bladder center in rabbits reaching from L4 to L6, we induced a transverse lesion of the cord with paraplegia in the first group above L4–L6, in the second group between L4–L6 and in the third group below L4–L6. In group I – corresponding to the supranuclear lesion – most of the cases showed hypertrophy of the smooth muscle. In group II, as expected in an intranuclear lesion, the degeneration of the cell dominates. Group III, which has only a minimal lesion of the nucleus or none at all, we found little histological alteration of the smooth muscle of the bladder. The results are interpreted and compared with the clinical findings in children with neurogenic bladder.
