Repair of Potentially Lethal Damage in X-Irradiated V79 Cells

Abstract
Repair of potentially lethal damage (PLD) was investigated in V79 Chinese hamster cells exposed to X radiation under various conditions of growth and cell-to-cell contact. These cells were capable of repair of PLD in the growing state, in plateau phase, and when grown as multicellular spheroids. The magnitude of repair was dependent upon the growth state of the cells, the presence or absence of conditioned medium, the cell cycle position, and cell-to-cell contact during the post-irradiation period.
