Abstract
The articular cartilage in the notch is continuous at birth but is broken postnatally into olecranon and coronoid portions by a fossa nudata. The fossa is covered by pannus formed by removal of the chondroitin matrix leaving the cells and fibers. Fossa formation follows loss of contact with the trochlea of the humerus during growth.
