CIRCULATORY EFFECTS OF DIETHYLSTIL –BESTROL IN CATS AND RATS WITH A NOTE ON INTESTINAL ABSORPTION

Abstract
The data from cats and rats are consistent in showing that diethylstilbestrol has a slight depressant effect on blood pressure. This is usually of brief duration and followed by a return to the previously existing level. The amt. of diethylstilbestrol per kg. of body wt. necessary to induce a change in blood pressure is far greater than the dosage administered for estrogenic action. The rate of the cat''s heart was not affected by diethylstilbestrol. Plethysmographic records indicate constriction of the liver and leg and dilatation of the intestine and kidney. Absorption from the intestinal tract was evident in as short a time as 3 mins. and lasted for about 15 mins. As far as could be detd. these values were the same for diethylstilbestrol in suspension and in soln. as for the Na salt.
