Abstract
To the Editor: Cimetidine is known to be a clinically important inhibitor of drug metabolism because of its interaction with microsomal monooxygenases.1 A study was undertaken to determine whether cimetidine might affect the disposition of metronidazole to a clinically important degree. Metronidazole kinetics were studied in six healthy volunteers on two occasions in random order. On one occasion each subject received 400 mg of metronidazole as a 20-minute intravenous infusion. Blood samples were obtained before and serially over 24 hours after the infusion. Each subject was then given 400 mg of cimetidine twice daily for six days. On Day 6 . . .Keywords
