Abstract
The duoplasmatron has been studied with particular emphasis on the production of multiply charged heavy ions. Experiences and results achieved in the past lead to the construction of a source permitting the application of higher discharge power and ion extraction from the point of densest plasma. With pulsed operation, discharge conditions were found where ions up to Xe11+ are extracted. Outlines of further development of a duoplasmatron type heavy ion source are sketched. Keywords
