Abstract
A body-centered orthorhombic structure is proposed for the high-pressure phase of tellurium which has been observed between 40 kbar and 70 kbar. This structure is based on the in situ data of others using high-pressure x-ray diffraction. The proposed structure is in agreement with density data, and appears related to a distorted β-tin structure.
