Abstract
The phase transitions γ(R3̄m)→β(P21/c)→α(A2) of mixed compounds Pb3P2x V2-2x O8 were studied both on powder samples and single crystals. X-ray results show there is no tricritical point in the composition range x=0.0–0.6. On the other hand a coexistence of phases is observed in a wide temperature range (martensitic behaviour) when x\geqslant0.2, and the β→α and γ→β transitions no more occur when x\geqslant0.24 and x\geqslant0.28 respectively. The structural mechanism of the γ→β transition is discussed in relation with existence of lone pairs of Pb(II) ions located between the structural layers. Keywords
