Abstract
The isolation of a stable mutant of Cryptococcus neoformans which profusely produces true hyphae is reported. The mutant, which was initially observed in subsurface colonies grown in agar pour plates, demonstrated biochemical, cultural and pathogenic properties characteristic of C. neoformans. These properties were retained through repeated transfers and single-cell isolations. In addition, clumps of blastospore-like cells produced at intervals along the hyphae were also observed in submerged colonies of the hyphae forming mutant. Examination of 34 additional strains of C. neoformans revealed similar formation of hyphae in 2 strains. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
