Abstract
Metronidazole, tinidazole and ornidazole were active against 50 clinical isolates of Bacteroides fragilis in vitro, as determined with the broth dilution method. Like metronidazole and tinidazole, omidazole was also bactericidal. The highest MIC values were 10 μg/ml, and the highest MBC were 2.0 or 4.0 μg/ml depending on whether 99% or 99.9% killing was used as the criterion of end-point. Tinidazole was statistically significantly more inhibitory and bactericidal than the others, but the average differences were less than twofold. Keywords
