Acute Brucellosis among Laboratory Workers

Abstract
UNDULANT fever occurs frequently among laboratory workers handling cultures of Brucella organisms.1 This report is a summary of such infections in 17 persons engaged in investigative work with these organisms. The organization of the laboratories at Camp Detrick made it possible to gather serologic data before infection. These cases offered an unusual opportunity to observe the clinical course of this disease from the onset of illness and to submit several chemotherapeutic agents to clinical trial.A Brucella vaccine was given to all members of the laboratory group, including the 17 who subsequently contracted brucellosis.
