Abstract
It is shown that sliding and turbidity currents have formed an important mechanism of sedimentation in several Mesozoic and Tertiary basins of the Alps. It is argued that the features developed under these conditions, if applied on a regional scale to the study of sedimentation, provide a valuable tool for paleogeographic and orogenic investigations. Keywords
