Abstract
Growth trajectories are “infinite‐dimensional” traits: each individual is described by a curve that represents an infinite number of measurements. Recently developed methods allow genetic variation in infinite‐dimensional traits to be quantified. This framework is outlined, and illustrated with data on mice. Applications of the infinite‐dimensional approach to problems such as sire evaluation and QTL mapping are suggested.Keywords
